About Chef William Wong:
Chef William Wong's career spans more than three decades, a testament to his unwavering dedication and passion for the art of Chinese cuisine. His journey began in the humblest of settings, working in restaurant kitchens, where he chopped vegetables and meat from the early hours of the morning to late at night. To hone his skills and build his knowledge and repertoire as a chef, Chef Wong trained under the tutelage of his mentors in Hong Kong and traveled the world to sample international cuisines. Through grit and determination, he began to climb the ranks of the restaurant business.
Along his journey, Chef Wong not only mastered the art of cooking, but as his mentors did for him, he also became an inspiration and mentor for other aspiring chefs. Chef Wong has trained many successful chefs and business owners, including the chef behind acclaimed Austin restaurants Lin and Qi. Over his career, he has generously shared his wealth of knowledge and experience, nurturing talent and shaping the future of Austin’s culinary scene.
Like many in the hospitality industry, Chef Wong faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sadly, his previous New Fortune restaurant on Lamar felt the impact deeply and was forced to close. However, Chef Wong’s commitment and drive remained strong, and New Fortune 2 was born.
Outside of the kitchen, Chef Wong lives in Austin with his wife and two daughters and enjoys spending time outdoors and fishing.
Today, Chef William Wong continues to delight diners with his creations, each dish bearing the unmistakable imprint of his lifelong passion and dedication. Join us at New Fortune 2, where the dishes tell the story of his journey from humble beginnings to the chef he is today.
